ABOUT CAPITAL FURCON

Capital FurCon (CFC) is a new 21+ furry convention which will be held annually at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center! And you heard that right, 21+! We know what you're all here for!

We aim to bring together not only all of the Greater DC area's furry scene, but also a diverse range of congoers from all corners of the US and beyond, by promoting a unique, stand-out experience that caters to what we love most about the furry community - the people, the passion, the parties!

CFC is organized by Capital Furries Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The goals of the organization are:

(A) To provide a high-quality convention to bring together those who enjoy anthropomorphic characters, art and fandom content;

(B) To promote the appreciation and acceptance of the anthropomorphic fandom;

(C) To provide education, promote the content of, and fundraise for partnered 501(c)(3) non-profit charities with whom this corporation shares interests with;

(D) To undertake other projects, programs and activities not inconsistent with Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and applicable Maryland state law.

OUR THEME

Capital FurCon Theme

Our convention theme for 2027 is Launch! We wanted to choose a theme that tied into exactly how we're feeling as a team, blasting off into the unknown for our first year.

EVENT OUTLINE

CFC aims to be DC's go-to furry convention, so we will offer the core event planning you would expect from a furry convention. We plan to offer the following staple activities and events at CFC for our attendees:

A. Dealer's Den, Adult Dealer's Den, Artist's Alley and Events Hall

B. Main Stage (w/ Raves and Events!)

C. Panels and Community Meetups

D. Gaming Lounge

For CFC's room block, we are currently working with the Gaylord to guarantee room gatherings as part of our contract and organize a event block. At our room block's launch, roughly 300 rooms will be available for attendees. These rooms are not atrium rooms, but our attendees will be able to upgrade to atrium rooms outside of our event rate if they so choose. Please go to this page for more information.

CFC will have 20 suites available for attendees. These suites will be offered via either a lottery system or application system. More details will be provided in the coming months. Please go to this page for more information in the coming months.

CFC will have five available registration tiers, ranging from your standard attendance to the more extravagant Gay Sovereign tier with unique bonuses. More information about these tiers and their benefits can be found on this page here.

CFC will have preliminary event capacity for 75 vendors and 10 to 20 Artist Alley tables. For more information on the vendor halls please go to this page.

For CFC's events and scheduling, please go to the programming tab in our header. At this time, these pages may be incomplete. Please keep an eye out for more information in the following months.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why Washington DC? The inception of CFC was straight-forward. Our convention director was inspired by the rapid growth in furry conventions and wanted to start something local in the DC area where it would be possible to realize an eventual large-scale convention.

The Gaylord is right between three large airports, and is on the I-95 corridor, making travel here simple and easy! Washington D.C. has a variety of attractions and cultural experiences to explore. The area around the Gaylord is safe, walkable, vibrant, has a variety of food options, and is within two miles of Washington D.C. and a short drive from the National Mall. It is impossible to experience everything this area has to offer in one weekend!

(A) Our vision for CFC is to become a major convention that people travel across the U.S. to attend. As such, we wanted a timeslot that does not compete with any of other big furcons. We wouldn't want to make anyone choose! Our ideal timeslot would be in the Fall - but the Gaylord Resort is a highly contested venue that books years in advance, so we were unable to secure it Year 1. We are aiming for a Fall timeslot for Year 2 or 3 if we can maintain good rates in that time slot (unless our attendees prefer we remain in February of course)!

(B) The colder and milder weather would mean our congoers and especially fursuiters wouldn't have to deal with overheating. Most of the other big cons take place in or around the summer months, so we hope CFC will be a welcome change of scenery

CFC is going to be initially reserving enough space for 2,400 attendees in our event areas per room capacity for our event rooms. For our room block, we will have 300 mixed single king and double queens hotel rooms available, which should allow for 1.2k attendees on-site. Additionally, we plan on having 20 suites available, which will be booked by a separate process from the regular rooms.

We will be able to scale up both our hotel space and room block as needed. Currently we are working with minimum numbers required to make this convention successful. We hope that we are able to smash our minimum goals and have a greater than expected turn out!

The convention director and organization board chair, McChaffee, is a former paralegal specializing in contract law and currently works in the public sector as a financial analyst. In addition, two of the associate convention directors and board members, Aurora and Night, have experience staffing smaller conventions. The current convention departments are managed by volunteers with varying levels of prior experience hosting, organizing, or attending other events and conventions.

CFC also has consultants and contacts providing general advice and insight from members of other convention staff teams, including FWA and Further Confusion. (Please note that we are not officially affiliated with these conventions and we appreciate the crazy amount of work they have to do for their conventions.)

The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center is a beautiful and unique venue for a furry convention. Not only that, but the building is highly contested for conventions of all genres and sizes - for good reason. The Gaylord is a resort, almost like a cruise on land. Ultimately, we aim to create a premium experience for all of our guests, and that begins with a premium venue.

We're not affiliated with CCFC (Capital City FurCon). There are no members of the staff or the board of directors that have had any connection with CCFC. Our naming similarity is due to our convention being hosted in our nation's capital and is otherwise a coincidence.
