Our Convention Plans

 FAQs

  • Why Washington DC? The inception of CFC was straight-forward. Our convention director was inspired after enjoying several conventions in the DC area and realizing the potential for a major large-scale convention here (5000+ attendees).

The Gaylord is right between three large airports, and is on the I-95 corridor, making travel here simple and easy! Washington D.C. has a variety of attractions and cultural experiences to explore. The area around the Gaylord is safe, walkable, vibrant, has a variety of food options, and is within two miles of Washington D.C. and a short drive from the National Mall. It is impossible to experience everything this area has to offer in one weekend!

  • (A) Our vision for CFC is to become a major convention that people travel across the U.S. to attend. As such, we wanted a timeslot that does not compete with any of other big furcons. We wouldn't want to make anyone choose! Our ideal timeslot would be in the Fall - but the Gaylord Resort is a highly contested venue that books years in advance, so we were unable to secure it Year 1. We are aiming for a Fall timeslot for Year 2 or 3 if we can maintain good rates in that time slot (unless our attendees prefer we remain in February of course)!

    (B) The colder and milder weather would mean our congoers and especially fursuiters wouldn't have to deal with overheating. Most of the other big cons take place in or around the summer months, so we hope CFC will be a welcome change of scenery

  • CFC is going to be initially reserving enough space for 2,400 attendees in our event areas per room capacity for our event rooms. For our room block, we will have 300 mixed single king and double queens hotel rooms available, which should allow for 1.2k attendees on-site. Additionally, we plan on having 20 suites available, which will be booked by a separate process from the regular rooms.

We will be able to scale up both our hotel space and room block as needed. Currently we are working with minimum numbers required to make this convention successful. We hope that we are able to smash our minimum goals and have a greater than expected turn out!

  • The convention director and organization board chair, McChaffee, is a former paralegal specializing in contract law and currently works in the public sector as a financial analyst. In addition, two of the associate convention directors and board members, Aurora and Night, have experience staffing smaller conventions. The current convention departments are managed by volunteers with varying levels of prior experience hosting, organizing, or attending other events and conventions.

CFC also has consultants and contacts providing general advice and insight from members of other convention staff teams, including FWA and Further Confusion. (Please note that we are not officially affiliated with these conventions and we appreciate the crazy amount of work they have to do for their conventions.)

  • The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center is a beautiful and unique venue for a furry convention. Not only that, but the building is highly contested for conventions of all genres and sizes - for good reason. The Gaylord is a resort, almost like a cruise on land. Ultimately, we aim to create a premium experience for all of our guests, and that begins with a premium venue.

  • We’re not affiliated with CCFC (Capital City FurCon). There are no members of the staff or the board of directors that have had any connection with CCFC. Our naming similarity is due to our convention being hosted in our nation’s capital and is otherwise a coincidence.
