In the event that our artist alley is not full, we will remove this restriction either shortly before or at the convention.
Section 3 – Maryland Legal Requirements (Taxes)
A transient vendor license is required to be a vendor at CFC. Sales tax within the state of Maryland is currently 6% on all goods and services. Refunds will not be issued for vendors who arrive at CFC without this license. CFC will send out email notifications to approved vendors for when they should apply for the transient vendor license.
To get a transient vendor license, you must do the following:
- You must apply for a sales and use license online from the Comptroller of Maryland via Maryland Tax Connect. (https://mdtaxconnect.gov/)
- PDF Tutorial
- Video Tutorial
- After the event, you must file your collected sales tax on MD Tax Connect.
Capital Fur Con is held in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Vendors can then go to the Clerk of the Circuit Court to apply for a state transient vendor license. To apply, the following information is required:
- Legal Name of Business/Individual

Section 4 – Vendor Check-In/Setup/Teardown
For vendors checking in at the convention, please use the following checklist:

- Load-in for vendors will occur on Thursday night between the hours of 8PM to 11PM. Vendors who need additional time will need to contact staff to have access to the area after these hours. Additional time will be provided on Friday morning. Load-in will occur via the side entrance nearest to our vendor hall on the east side of the building. A map will be provided to vendors in the coming months.
- Only vendors and their assistants will be allowed access to the vendor hall during load-in hours.
- Vendors and their assistants will be allowed access to the vendor hall an hour prior to opening on regular operating days.
- Vendors for the Midnight Festival will be provided with additional information as we get closer to the convention dates.
Section 5 – Vendor Rules
Below are the following rules for Vendors. All rules established here are subservient to CFC’s general Code of Conduct and other policies. If you are unfamiliar with those particular rules, please go and review them before attending CFC. While vending at CFC, the following rules are in effect for vendors:
- All merchandise and displays must be kept within the space designated by convention staff as the vendor’s. Unless designated or pre-approved by staff, you may not have material extending in front of or past the sides of your table. Any encroachment on other vendor spaces will be addressed by our convention staff.
- In reference to the above rule, all aisles of travel must be kept open. Vendors blocking aisles of travel will be asked to move their materials.
- Displays, banners, mounts, wares, decorations and other miscellaneous items may not be hung, mounted or attached to any walls, windows or ceilings.
The following materials are not allowed to be sold at any time in our vendor hall:
- Political Content - Due to CFC’s 501(c)(3) non-profit status, we are required to be politically neutral. Additionally, due to our location close to the nation’s capital, we need to take some additional precautions. As a result, we cannot allow official political or politically endorsing merchandise to be sold in our convention space. Please see the following outlines:
- Comedic Parody Content - Content that is intended to be a comedic parody is allowed provided there is clear intent to not upset or offend other convention attendees. For example, a parody “Don’t Tread on Me” flag featuring a reptilian fursona is allowed.
- Personal Identity Content - Content that’s intended to better describe someone's self-identity and not political orientation, specifically pride flags and their variants, are allowed.
- If unsure, err on the side of caution and do not sell the merch in question and ask the vendor hall or convention staff.
- Please email twoshoesmcgee@capitalfurcon.org with any questions.
- Hate/Discriminatory Content - Content that promotes extreme violence, discrimination or is grossly offensive is not allowed in our vendor hall in any form. Selling or displaying merchandise of this content will result in an immediate ban from CFC.
Illegal or Content of Immense Questionable Legality - Content of this nature includes live casts, adult art of characters of dubious age (for example “cub”), photography of others sold without their permission, copyright infringement (not including fair/transformative use) and any content that is of questionable legal nature. If you are unsure of specific content, please consult with our vendor hall convention staff.
- twoshoesmcgee@capitalfurcon.org- Food, drinks, candy, or any other substances that can be either inhaled or ingested in some manner (not including perfumes).
- Cosplay weaponry or any form of weaponry for sale is prohibited.
- Artificially generated content (AI) is not allowed to be sold or utilized in any format in the vendor space. Vendors violating this will be removed from the vendor halls and banned from future convention spaces.
Adult Materials Guidelines
Adult materials may be sold in all of our vendors spaces with the following limitations for our Artist Alley, Dealer’s Den and Event Hall:
- Vendors wanting to sell NSFW content (Not Safe For Work) can provide a black book of preview prints.
- Vendors wishing to display this content must cover the explicit materials on their displays to make the rating PG-13 as per the hotel’s guidelines.
- CFC will be performing an ID check prior to providing a wristband or badge to attendees. It is assumed in good faith that attendees entering our space will be 21+ years of age. Vendors are allowed to ask for ID before sales at their discretion. Attendees who have violated this good faith are committing fraud and will be subject to law enforcement.
- Vendors are not allowed to sell content in non-designated vendor areas outside of their assigned vendor location in the convention space. If you are caught selling material outside of the designated vending area, you may have your badge revoked.
- CFC, The Gaylord, and other dealers will not be held responsible for any material that is stolen or damaged accidentally during the convention, including non-vendor hall hours. If you plan on leaving your table at any point during regular operating hours, please plan to have an assistant available to watch your table. Entry points into the vendor hall are recorded and CFC staff will secure the space during closed hours. Please report any form of theft to convention staff and provide any proof so we can forward the information on to law enforcement and resolve any incidents.
- Vendors (and attendees) are not allowed to drink alcohol, vape or smoke in the vendor space. Excessively intoxicated individuals in the vendor halls will be asked to leave.
- Vendors who wish to share a table or host a duo table setup must outline this in their application - all vendors/artists selling from your booth must have approval
Section 6 – Our Stance on Graphical A.I Art Content
CFC does not in any way support or endorse the usage of graphical AI art content in our vendor space or convention. While we have stated that content created using A.I is not allowed, other stipulations apply to our space both in and out of our vendor halls:
- We will not knowingly accept vendor applications that contain clear usage of A.I. This could be from text formatting on an application, A.I usage in the business’s logo or advertising and bringing in A.I content to the vendor hall that was not listed in an application form will result in an ejection from the vendor halls and a ban from future convention spaces.
- CFC will not knowingly use AI graphical art in our official final-production convention related materials.
Unfortunately, we as a convention cannot guarantee that we will be able to distinguish all use cases of AI. A.I art is getting pretty damn hard to detect in some instances. In the event that confirmed A.I materials do sneak by our staff, please let us know by reaching out to twoshoesmcgee@capitalfurcon.org (our vendor lead) or contact@capitalfurcon.org (our general contact email).
