2. The Venue

Capital Fur Con is going to be hosted at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Maryland (otherwise known as the "National Harbor"). The Gaylord is a 4-star resort and convention hotel with an attached convention center located off of the Washington D.C. beltway, at the I-495 and I-295 junction. Please see below for a visual representation of the venue's location:

To reach the Gaylord by vehicle, the following interstates and highways are the most convenient to reach I-495:

3. Airports

This section will cover air travel to Washington D.C. for those interested in flying. There are three major airports local to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. These airports are Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). For cost-effective traveling, we recommend either Reagan or Dulles over BWI as they feature easy access to D.C. public transit options.

AirportDistanceDrive TimePublic TransitRating

IAD36.1 miles40-55 minMetro accessRecommended
BWI40.9 miles45-60 minLimitedHonorable Mention

Recommended - Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

Reagan National Airport area

This airport is the most convenient airport for air travel to CFC. At 8.3 miles from the convention center, the commute to the Gaylord by vehicle is typically 15 to 20 minutes. This airport features immediate access to the Washington D.C. metro system.

The following airlines fly into Reagan:

  • American Airlines
  • Delta
  • Southwest
  • United
  • JetBlue
  • Alaska
  • Frontier
  • Air Canada

Recommended - Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Dulles International Airport terminal

This airport is the second most convenient airport for air travel to CFC and is the most convenient for international flights. This airport is 36.1 miles from the Gaylord with a commute time of 40-55 minutes by vehicle. This airport features immediate access to the Washington D.C. metro system, which will significantly cut down on distance to the Gaylord and rideshare cost. If you are flying into Dulles and want to save money, we recommend the metro and advise you to read the "Metro System" section of this page.

The following airlines fly into Dulles:

Honorable Mention - Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)

Baltimore Washington International Airport

This airport is 40.9 miles from the Gaylord with a commute time of 45-60 minutes by vehicle. This airport does not feature immediate easy access to any of Washington D.C.'s public transportation systems. We are including this airport as it is a Southwest hub as an honorable mention if you have a massive flight discount to make up for the high rideshare costs.

4. Metro System

This section covers the D.C. metro and how to navigate on it to CFC. While the metro does not directly go to our venue (curse D.C. for not extending the blue line), it can cut down on significant travel costs by allowing you to get close to the venue and either taking the bus route or a short rideshare. For those unfamiliar with the metro system, please see the following map below:

DC Metro map with King St-Old Town highlighted

As you can see, Washington D.C. features one of the most robust metro systems within the United States, allowing for easy public transportation around the city from most locations within the metropolitan area. The closest metro station to the National Harbor is King St-Old Town station which connects the blue and yellow lines in Virginia. Getting off the metro at this station provides easy access to the P90 bus route to National Harbor or a very short rideshare.

For those flying into Washington D.C. and arriving at Reagan, there is minimal benefit to using this system from Reagan as it does not subtract much distance from a rideshare ride. For those arriving at Dulles, this is a completely different case and using this system can dramatically reduce costs at the expense of taking slightly longer to reach the venue. For those arriving at Dulles, please see the following:

StepInstruction
1After retrieving your bags, there is a 600ft walk to the metro station connected to the airport via a climate-controlled pedestrian tunnel from the main terminal. There are moving sidewalks to assist those who need them.
2This metro station is at the west end of the Silver line and you can board any train leaving this station.
3Ride the Silver line all the way to Roselyn station in Alexandria, then disembark.
4Board the Blue line going south to Franconia-Springfield.
5Watch all the top-secret government employees disembark at the Pentagon.
6Disembark from the train at King St-Old Town.
7Proceed to the venue either using the P90 bus route or rideshare apps, which are covered in the next section.

For those looking to experience D.C. tourism at any point during the convention, we also highly recommend using the metro system from King St-Old Town station as it is the cheapest and most convenient method of transportation around the city if you purchase a day pass.

5. Bus Route/Rideshare

This section covers the bus route and optimal rideshare starting point to get to the National Harbor. Assuming you have followed the previous section and arrived at King St-Old Town station, you now have two options to complete the final leg of your journey. The first and cheapest option is to take the P90 bus route that begins at Bay J at King St-Old Town station. Please see a map of the P90 route below:

P90 bus route map from King St-Old Town station to National Harbor

For those taking the P90 bus route, please do the following:

StepInstruction
1Proceed to Bay J at King St-Old Town station.
2Pay fare and board the bus, either using SmarTrip Card/App or cash.
3Ride the bus!
4Get off at St George Bl + Waterfront St.
5Proceed across the street to the Gaylord.

For those uninterested in utilizing the bus route, rideshares from King St-Old Town station are the most optimal to reduce potential costs. You can utilize apps like Uber or Lyft.
